Real Club Valderrama

The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 metres from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot. The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Sotogrande New. In 1981 its name was changed to Las Aves. Finally, Ortiz-Patiño renamed the course Valderrama, after the ancient estate on which the land is situated.

This golf course in Málaga is one of Spain’s best courses for playing golf, according to the prestigious magazine Golf Digest. Adapted to its rural Mediterranean surroundings, it is a golf course where you can enjoy an excellent climate at any time of the year.

Club de Golf La Reserva

A magnificent 18-hole golf course designed by Cabell B. Robinson, offering a spectacular round running between lakes and trees. La Reserva de Sotogrande lies in a beautiful natural setting in the upper part of Sotogrande. Bordered by one of the most exclusive and best managed golf courses in Spain, its commanding position offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean and one of the best golf courses in Europe. The golf course opened in August 2003 and is now considered to be one of the best in Spain.

RÍO REAL GOLF CLUB

Río Real Golf Club is located in a privileged place, almost two miles from the centre of Marbella. It was built on land with a gentle slope that slides down to the sea, which is why many of its holes offer magnificent views of the Mediterranean.

Designed by Javier Arana, the round, which stands out for its natural surroundings, is not uneven, though its outline crosses the river that gives its name to the club four times. The greens are quite flat, very well cared for and protected by the bunkers surrounding them. Hole four stands out for its beauty and its path leads to the beach. Hole 10, a dogleg to the right, opens out into the spectacular tee box of Hole 11 that offers a spectacular view from on high of the green that is located on the other side of the river.

LA CALA RESORT

This is one of Europe’s main landmarks for golfers, who are attracted by its size, the quality of its facilities, the temperate climate and its private location. It has three 18-hole golf courses and an academy.

Campo Europa: Campo Europa is a little more spacious than the other two courses at La Cala Resort. Given its design, with wide paths and flatter terrain, it is an ideal course for mid-level golfers. Its stands out for its main bridge and another four bridges over the River Ojén on its round, as well as its tunnels for moving around in the buggy. Hole 14 is at the limit permitted for a par 10,606 feet away. And par-5 Hole 11 is the longest at 1,719 feet.

Campo América: Campo América has wide paths and few bunkers, though the changes in gradient make it very important to choose the right club. Skill is required when hitting to the green, since almost three quarters of them are a little elevated. The last holes are a wonder, like spectacular Hole 16 with its lake and fountain and Hole 17 with a narrow and tricky green towards Hole 18. The latter is a fantastic par 5. Previously known as Campo Norte, it has spectacular views of the Sierra de Ojén and Mediterranean. It has an extensive round with few bunkers, making it seem a relatively easy course.

Campo Asia: Previously known as Campo del Sur, the oldest golf course at La Cala Resort and also the most challenging, which is why it is the most respected by golf professionals. With narrow, short paths and par-5 holes for those requiring special expertise in the game, especially on the short approach. The holes of the Asia golf course that require special expertise in the game include: Hole 10, with its classic design, Holes 3 and 14, with their hazards and Holes 5 and 18. Playing these holes is a deciding factor in obtaining a good score in the round.

LA QUINTA GOLF & CLUB

La Quinta Golf & Club is a very comfortable golf course that adapts to all levels of the game. La Quinta Golf Club has 27 holes divided into three rounds and nine holes, which form part of the natural surroundings of the zone, from where you can see the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains surrounding Golf Benahavís Valley. These courses can be combined to have more playing options.

SANTA MARÍA GOLF

Much of the charm and character that distinguishes Santa María is personified in the Club House. This splendid 18th century building, with its vine-covered courtyards and magnificent gardens, has tennis courts and a bowls club. Santa María is famous for being one of the most comfortable international clubs on the coast and has 350 members of 14 nationalities.

Situated in the unparalleled beauty of the Andalusian mountains, Santa María Golf’s round snakes through a valley, following its outlines surrounded by natural vegetation with a delicious pine grove, oak forest, stream and four lakes. This golf course, located in the outskirts of Marbella, is one of the most popular in the area.

SANTA CLARA GOLF

This is the only golf course in Marbella that is certified with the ISO 9001 seal of quality. Located in a natural environment with native fauna and vegetation, it has become a meeting point for all golf lovers in Spain. The most outstanding holes at this golf course form the so-called “Amen Corner.” Hole 12 is a 400 m downhill par 4, from which you can see spectacular views of the entire Estepona and Gibraltar Bay. Hole 13 is 597-foot long par 3 protected by a big lake and Hole 14 is a 1,719-foot long par 6, handicap 1. This hole is very long, and the favourite of the professionals who play on the golf circuit.

LOS NARANJOS GOLF

Robert Trent Jones regards this as one of the best in Europe and it is definitely a championship course. With large, curvy greens, wide paths and water in the play at several holes, the design is a true challenge for all handicap levels. With greens in perfect condition and a continuous programme of improvements to the playing terrain, Los Naranjos is one of the most outstanding courses on the Costa del Sol.

ATALAYA GOLF

Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburgeren. The course has par 72 and 18 holes, and is an exciting round offering spectacular views of the Sierra de la Concha. Atalaya Old Course has a round suitable for both beginners and professionals, since it has some very flexible tees. Moreover, golf classes are given in different languages on its practice course, one of the most spacious in Spain.

The design offers spacious paths built on very pleasant terrain, without large gradients. The greens are quite fast and many are located high up. Atalaya Golf has a golf academy headed by the champions Carlos Balsameda and Diego Morito, guaranteeing excellent golf instruction both for beginners and advanced players.

EL PARAÍSO GOLF

El Paraíso has spacious paths along which it is very easy to walk and which are surrounded by palm trees, pine trees, oleander trees and olive trees, with snaking streams and two magnificent lakes. Gary Player, along with Kirby, left his imprint on this course, which was opened in 1973. It was designed making good use of the side of a hill that descends to the sea. El Paraíso has some wide paths, though it does not permit hard attacking, since its roughs are dangerous tramps. The water obstacles acquire a notable relevance due to the beauty they provide to the round and because there are dangerous streams hidden in the roughs.

ALCAIDESA GOLF

Alcaidesa Links is the most like a golf course with links that you will find in Andalusia, a round that offers spectacular views of the Rock of Gibraltar and the mountains of northern Morocco. It has two very different courses. The first one was designed by Peter Allis and Clive Clark. The design has some water obstacles and the wind also usually comes into play, at times creating great difficulties for the ball not to leave the path, despite the fact that these are generally wide.

Dave Thomas is the designer of the second Alcaidesa course which was opened in 2007. The highest part provides a large exit to the course, with magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. There is a general movement in this part of the course that encourages attacking golf. The valley provides the majority of the most spectacular holes because the existing streams have been used in the design and also create several lakes with waterfalls.

ESTEPONA GOLF

Estepona Golf offers magnificent natural scenery and a rather difficult round. The paths, however, are wide and the greens are spacious, so the secret is probably not to be too ambitious. The design adapts to the natural environment with the Sierra Bermeja as a background and the sea can be seen from most of the holes.

The club house rises above green 18 and offers sea views. The restaurant and golf shop stand out and are very reasonably priced. Estepona Golf is one of the most popular courses on the Costa del Sol.

LA DUQUESA GOLF

La Duquesa, designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, is distinguished by how wide its paths are. Some of the first nine holes are truly amazing. Hole 17, a par 3 whose tee is located very high up, stands out with some singular views of the coast and sea. The second round is more technical or complicated, but always with the Mediterranean, La Duquesa Port, Gibraltar or the mountain within view.

Its facilities offer other sports, such as tennis and swimming. It has a pro-shop, practice path, approach zone, putting green, buggies, trolleys and general services, such as restaurant, cafeteria, dressing rooms, saunas, steam baths, jacuzzi, indoor swimming pool, tennis court, meeting rooms, etc.

VALLE ROMANO GOLF & RESORT

Valle Romano Golf & Resort is one of the most emblematic complexes on the Costa del Sol. It is located in a singular enclave between the sea and the mountains, with extensive views of the Mediterranean Sea that on clear days allow the silhouette of the Moroccan coast to be seen. It has an impressive 18-hole golf course, recommended by Severiano Ballesteros.

The complex has an 18-hole golf course, club house, a prestigious golf school and one of the largest sporting facilities in the pipeline on the Costa del Sol, which will include a 11-a-side football pitch, two 7-a-side football pitches and paddle tennis and tennis courts.

DOÑA JULIA GOLF CLUB

Doña Julia Golf Club is part of a spectacular complex in Casares, between Marbella and Sotogrande. The facilities are perfectly integrated into the area’s natural landscape and it stands out for its magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea and African coast. The course has 18 par 71 holes and is 19,606 feet long, and was designed by the Malagan architect Antonio García Garrido. Its most outstanding feature is the width of its greens. It has two very varied rounds: the first nine holes are longer and more difficult, while the second part is more comfortable, with a gentle relief.

TORROX COSTA / NERJA

Baviera Golf is nestled to the north by the foothills of the Sierra Tejada, Alhama and Almijara Natural Park in Málaga, in a valley with an ideal microclimate for playing golf. It is a few feet from the Caleta de Vélez Marina and its magnificent beaches, that along with Torre del Mar and Nerja Beach (very near each other), are regarded as some of the best on the Costa del Sol.

Baviera Golf has been designed by José María Cañizares, the prestigious professional golfer, who is one of its most international and charismatic players, whose tournament record is five tournaments on the European circuit and two world championships, and has also taken part in the Ryder Cup several times.

Founded in 1990 and designed by the prestigious professional player José María Cañizares, Añoreta Golf was the first golf course built in Málaga’s Axarquía region. Añoreta Golf is an 18-hole par 72 round. Suitable for all kinds of players, it has a very varied design that is pleasant to play and requires all the clubs to be used. PARADOR DE MÁLAGA GOLF

Parador Málaga Golf Course is located on the shore of the Mediterranean, five minutes from Málaga Airport and 10 minutes from the city itself. Aloha Club de Golf

The Aloha golf club is an 18 holes course situated in Marbella, right in the heart of the Costa del Golf, and just a few minutes from Puerto Banús. Aloha Golf is an entertaining course which requires accuracy: the holes are not excessively long except for the 1st, the 4th, the 13th and the 18th. Is it a narrow course with plenty of hazards and trees which are strategically placed. The rough also complicates matters and some of the greens have an uneven surfac and are a challenge even for more skilful players. Members have priority when it comes to playing on the course and non-members can play at the invitation of a member. In the peak season, November and April, it is difficult to get a tee-time.The atmosphere of the club is excellent and has achieved a perferct balance between a a cosmopolitan ambience and the warm welcome which all golfers enjoy.

Real Club de Golf Las Brisas

Las Brisas Royal Golf Club is an 18 Holes course situated in the heart of Nueva Andalucía, in the so-called Golf Valley, is the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, one of the oldest courses on the Costa del Sol. The intense professional activity of Robert Trent Jones, one of the most famous golf course designers, reached a peak in 1969 with the opening of the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas. The designer created a course which demands accuracy on the part of players and where it is not enough to hit long shots, but rather you have to use your head. The layout contains a lot of water hazards, ten artificial lakes, ample protection from bunkers and greens which are mostly raised. All of this lies in a unique natural setting. The numerous professional tournaments which have been hosted throughout the history of the club include two World Cups, three Spanish International Opens and the first Mediterranean Open. Course has been recently (2015) renovated by Kyle Phillips.

Calanova Golf Club
